Zambia’s borders are defined by the Zambezi and Congo rivers. To the west is Angola, to the south-west is Namibia, to the south is Botswana, to the south-east is Zimbabwe, to the east is Mozambique, and to the north-east Zambia has a short border with Tanzania.

The capital city of Zambia is Lusaka, in the south-central part of the country. The population is concentrated here in the southern and eastern provinces, which contain about two-thirds of Zambia’s population.

Zambia’s economy is based primarily on copper mining, but agriculture is also important, employing about two-fifths of the workforce. Tourism is a fast growing industry.

Luangwa National Park

Bordering the Luangwa River, the northern and southern Luangwa National Parks contain some of the most breathtaking and untouched wilderness in Africa. One of the things that sets Zambia apart is its unique diversity. The country has a wide range of landscapes and ecosystems, which means there’s a lot of different wildlife to see. The park is renowned for its walking safaris, which allow visitors to view elephant, hippo and even lion close-up under the supervision of professional and knowledgeable armed guides.

The more popular South Luangwa offers fantastic game viewing with a huge density of wildlife including lions, giraffes, elephants, hippos and more. The northern section of the park is a place for those who want to experience Africa in its wildest form, there are no permeant lodges here, less wildlife than the southern part of the park and walking safaris are the main activity.

Luangwa is home to nearly two-thirds of Zambia’s elephant population which has thrived as conservation groups have teamed up with local communities here to help put a stop to Elephant Poaching.

Lower Zambezi

The Zambezi River is one of the most popular destinations to visit while on a Zambia safari tours. The river runs through six different countries, including Zambia, and is home to a variety of wildlife. Visitors can take part in activities such as fishing, swimming, and canoeing.

A true feeling of being somewhere wild and remote will surround you in the Lower Zambezi, there are no paved roads, and you can venture far without encountering another safari vehicle. The area is best known for its large concentration of elephant and buffalo. Boat excursions and canoeing for those feeling adventurous are available at most camps in the area.

The area was only declared a National Park In 1983, prior to which it was the private park of the President of Zambia, today many parts of the park are a UNESCO world heritage site. Most of the camps within the park are mid to higher range and have a variety of water activities including boating, canoeing or fishing for Tigerfish

Kafue National Park

Just a two-hour drive from Livingstone and set in the heart of western Zambia, Kafue National Park is the country's biggest and oldest National Park. The park is comprised of two distinct sections, of which the northern section is the biggest and shelters the highest concentrations of game. Due to it’s altitude the area tends to be cooler in October and November than Lunagwa.

The Lufupa, Lunga, and Kafue rivers provide the lifeblood of the reserve, with the annual summer flood of the Lufupa creating an impressive delta known as The Busanga Plains. This area is only accessible from early June to early November (water levels dependent) The floodplains, rivers, and woodlands support an impressive array of animal and birdlife.
